There’s news from PTT Global, the company that may build an ethane cracker plant in Belmont County.
They released a statement but it wasn’t the statement the Ohio Valley was waiting for.
It said PTT is merging with Daelim Industrial Company Ltd., a leading Korean construction and chemical company.
It said they plan to conduct a feasibility study on the Ohio project.
Several people believe it’s a good sign.
“I think this is very encouraging news–that the project has a great deal of momentum,” said Dan Williamson, spokesman for PTT. “You’ve got two outstanding, reputable, accomplished energy companies who are now working together on this project so I think this is very encouraging news for the people in the Ohio Valley.”
“”The fact that they’re merging with another company in our eyes is another good positive sign that they are making progress,” noted Mark Thomas, Belmont County commissioner. “So we embrace today’s announcement and we look forward to bigger and better ones.”
In the news release, however, it indicated the decision won’t happen soon.
It said, “The final investment decision is expected to be made by the end of 2018.”
