One of Wheeling’s biggest spring events is just over a month away, and over 300 riders are getting their bikes ready for the long haul.
This is the 12th year for the Wheeling Heritage Trail Bicycle Tour, and all money raised will be going towards repairs on Heritage Trail, maintaining bridges, painting lines, and keeping up with their bike repair clinic.
The event will be Sunday May 27th on Memorial Day weekend. It costs $25 per person or $35 on the day of. You can choose how long you would like to bike for: 1 to 10 miles, 25 to 30 miles, or their 100K ride. Doug Wayt, the tour’s director, says, “food is provided. We have a nice lunch provided, live entertainment. There might be some beer offered at Wesbanco arena. We have some great vendors this year. It’s just a fun event. We also have a repair clinic to teach people how to repair their bicycles.”
This is a family friendly event and everyone is invited to come out, but you must wear a helmet if you are participating in the event. You can register for the race at their website here.
Some of the biggest sponsors are glad to support this event and are looking forward to the community coming together and having fun! Jake Dougherty, the Executive Director of Wheeling Heritage, says, “anything that gets more people out on the trails and get the community together actively, we support. So we’re happy sponsor of the Ohio Valley Trail Partners.”
