Senators Capito, Brown stand against slash on domestic spending

Congress is buzzing over President Trump’s record-breaking 4.75 trillion dollar budget proposal for the 2019 fiscal year.

The budget would include increased funding for defense and border protection.

The proposed budget would also include less funding for domestic spendings like healthcare and education.

7News spoke with both West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown for their opinion on the budget.

Both senators standing against the slash on domestic spending.

“I don’t want to cut Medicare or Medicaid. I don’t want to stop the research that we have for Alzheimer’s and other diseases, a childhood cancer. So, I think we’re going to put our priorities back into the budget,” said Senator Shelley Moore Capito.

“It’s a betrayal of workers. It’s a betrayal of communities up and down the Ohio River because there’s nothing in there for middle-class folks,” Senator Sherrod Brown.

In his budget proposal, the President is also requesting 8.6 billion dollars for the border wall.
