WHEELING, W. Va. (WTRF) - As the winter weather continues to move across the Ohio Valley, one thing remains prominent for parents, looking for some different things for kids to do within the area.
Whether kids are feeling adventurous and willing to brave the cold or just want to stay inside and get creative during these winter months there's something for everyone right here in the Friendly City.
Some local businesses are welcoming kids with open arms on the weekends, but also on days when schools are closed due to weather.
Terra Crews, who is the Director of the Children's Museum of the Ohio Valley, says she and her staff enjoy helping out parents and providing a fun place for children. Once those kids walk in the door, they'll have the option to do a variety of different things that provide them with a unique hands on experience.
There's nothing like a child's imagination, which is something every child can explore while spending some time at the Children's Museum.
If kids want to take that creativity outside, they certainly can: the Wheeling Park Ice Rink is open for children of all ages, no matter what their skill level is when it comes to the skates!
If kids feel that they're ready to take those skills to the next level, Olgebay Park is giving them a chance to embrace winter sports through skiing and snow boarding!
They host lessons every Saturday morning for kids of all ages.
If you're looking to take a lessons they start at 9 a.m., and the slopes are opened throughout the weekend and also open up when during the week when Ohio County Schools close.
When the those schools close, the Wheeling Ice Rink also opens up for children to enjoy throughout the day.
If you would like to double-check that the museum, ice rink or slopes are open, organizers from each group encourage you to like their Facebook pages or go to their website.
