After a recent alleged incident that occurred on the Wheeling Trail officials remind you of some key tips to remember before heading out.
Use the buddy system. It is safer to travel with someone than alone.
It’s also a good idea to take your cell phone along in case of an emergency.
Finally, wear bright colors. It’s always better to have reflective clothing on.
However, it is important to keep in mind that the trail is closed during certain hours for your safety.
According to Wheeling Police Public Information Officer Philip Stahl, the trail is open from dawn to dusk, so anytime after the sunset police do not recommend that you use the trail for walking, biking or exercising.
Only use use it when the sun is up during daylight hours.
It is important to remember that this trail is used by many across the Wheeling area and is easier to navigate during daylight hours.
If you do see something you are uncomfortable while on the trail, you are encouraged to call 911 for assistance.
