Tecnocap employees rally in Glen Dale

GLEN DALE, W.Va. (WTRF) - Employees of Tecnocap in Glen Dale are on strike and were out in full force earlier on Wednesday.

Dozens of employees and retirees along  with some government officials held a rally outside the plant.

Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 818 unanimously voted down a contract and unanimously voted to strike last week.

Workers claim Tecnocap is refusing to bargain in good faith along with other unfair labor practices.

IAM District 54 President Dean Wright spoke to the workers, telling them that they deserve better.

He also said the IAM has filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.

Retiree Gary Porter said the situation is disturbing.

"I've worked under seven different ownerships before I retired. In Wheeling and in here. And not one time has there ever been a labor dispute. We were always treated with respect and dignity and I've never seen anything in my life, in this business as what's going on right here," said Porter.

7News reached out to Tecnocap but they have yet to return our phone calls.
