West Liberty University’s radio station WGLZ is celebrating after winning an award and a $1,000 grant.
Sophomore student Walker Polivka also earned a $3,000 national scholarship.
WGLZ was named a recipient of the Spirit of College Radio Award and was awarded the grant by the College Radio Foundation.
Polivka was recognized with the Abe Voron Award for his ongoing efforts in the studio.
He credits his success to his passion for radio.
“When I first came to West Liberty, I wanted to go into broadcasting but didn’t have that much experience in it. I wasn’t sure what all it would entail. My first semester here, I took the radio production course with Jeff Pfister and after that, I was just hooked. I absolutely loved the medium, and I loved being able to communicate with others through the medium of radio,” said Polivka.
With the grant money, the radio station plans to order some new equipment for their studio.
