Technology has provided tremendous advantages for higher education, and especially for West Liberty University.
West Liberty is utilizing WebEx to provide students who live outside of the Wheeling area a convenient way to attend and participate in classes.
All students need is access to a computer that has a camera, speakers and a microphone. Then, they can communicate with their professor as if they’re in the same room and turn in assignments through the internet.
Not only has WebEx helped enroll more West Virginians at West Liberty, but it has drawn in students from across the country.
“We have enrolled students from many other states in addition to the Tri-State area, but also from the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, from the Charleston area, from the Parkersburg area,” explained Dr. Leann Elkins, an Associate Professor at WLU. “We’ve had several students come from out of state to attend our programs, so what’s nice is that they don’t have to physically be here. They don’t have to drive two hours or even longer than that. They can attend through their computer.”
Dr. Elkins also mentioned that all graduate students, in-state and out of state, have the benefit of one flat tuition rate of $450 per credit hour, along with access to all West Liberty on-campus facilities and programs.
