For those of you looking for some history or even a bit of a scare, the West Virginia Penitentiary is now open for tours.
Friday was opening day for the new season and the first tours were packed with visitors.
Employees said someone even got engaged during that first tour.
Plenty of events are planned for the summer.
In addition to daily tours, around 1,000 students will be visiting to the site to learn.
The Penitentiary will be closed Sunday and Monday for the Easter Holiday.
“We’ve been doing tours here for 22 years um nearly a million people have gone through this facility and this year we’re hoping to top that million number so we’re really excited about that. People come here for the history and for the mystery,” said Suzanne Park, executive director of MEDC.
