Wheeling Health Right celebrated “Cheers to 25 Years” on Friday, at the 25th annual Chef’s Auction.
The anniversary celebration didn’t disappoint, bringing together the best food and dink the area has to offer.
“The food is incredible. It’s something you don’t usually think you’re going to find in Wheeling. They just out do themselves,” said Wheeling Health Right Executive Director Kathie Brown.
Nearly 20 area vendors put their best food forward for a sold-out crowd of more than 600 hungry guests who filled WesBanco Arena, all eager to raise money for Wheeling Health Right.
“We can’t do what we do if it weren’t for the community and they’ve always rallied behind us,” Brown said. “I just continue to hope that happens. With 22,000 patients we need all the financial support we can get.”
With music from the De’jaVu Band playing, guests sampled their fair share of wings, sliders, mac and cheese, desserts and so much more.
“We’re definitely trying to do our very best, bring our A game,” said Bobby Rys, owner or Pickles Eatery & Bar. “We love the Health Right. We love what they’re doing. The healthcare for people that need it that’s important and it’s important to give back to the community.”
“It’s so much fun and you’re helping out the Wheeling Health Right which helps people that work but don’t have insurance,” said Kirke Porterfield, owner of Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream. “It’s just good for everybody. It’s a lot of fun.”
There were also several auctions to help Wheeling Health Right reach it’s goal of raising $100,000.
The clinic receives funding from the state, but must receive 50 percent of its funding from the local area.
“Then with the break-in this morning of course now we’ve gotta upgrade our security system, outside cameras and that’s all more expense so we’re just always looking at something we have to spend money on,” Brown said.
Brown added that she’s greatful for the volunteers who make this event happen, and of course the donors.
