Throughout the month of April, Wheeling Hospital is celebrating National Donate Life Month.
Earlier this week, representatives from CORE presented the hospital with a flag to help them commemorate this special month. The flag is a symbol of the choice that individuals make to exercise their right to donate the “gift of life”. It will be present at Wheeling Hospital for the rest of this month.
Organ donations have helped people like Amanda Jenkins, who has cystic fibrosis. She is the recipient of a double-lung transplant.
“Prior to transplant, I was on oxygen full-time at that point and my right lung kept collapsing over and over again,” said Jenkins. “I actually had a chest tube for a year prior to transplant. I was listed for 13 months prior to getting my transplant.”
Jenkins says that she has never felt better in her life. If you are interested in becoming an organ donor, head over to Wheeling Hospital’s website.
