After a year-long fundraiser, Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack donated more than $30,000 to local charities on Thursday.
Officials said it’s all part of their Wheeling Island Sharing Hope initiative.
10 charities were selected this year to benefit from the money raised by donation boxes and employee donations on casual Fridays.
Wheeling Island President Kim Florence said she’s blown away by how much they raised this year.
She believes it’s so important to give back.
“It’s so exciting to have a group of people that I work with and guests that are coming into our property that feel giving back to charities is just as important as we feel it is. So it’s very exciting and it’s an honor for me to be apart of such a good group of people that are willing to give back to the community,” Florence said.
Of course, giving back to the community doesn’t stop there for the Casino.
Wheeling Island kicks off their “12 Days of Christmas Toy Drive” on Friday, December 1st.
All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army.
