Wheeling man reaches 100 mph during chase down Route 2

A Wheeling man behind bars after reaching speeds of 100 miles an hour during a chase on Route 2.

31-year-old George Johnson arrested Saturday night is still in the Northern Regional Jail on 9 charges including obstructing an officer, parole violation, assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while suspended.

Marshall County Sheriffs Chief Deputy Bill Helms said the chase started just after midnight in Ohio and continued in Wheeling. Johnson was reportedly seen by Wheeling Police officers driving south in the northbound lanes down Route 2.

Helms said Glen Dale officers clocked him going 90 miles per hour and deployed their spikes.

Johnson reportedly kept going, reaching 100 miles per hour on Route 2 near the Moundsville Walmart.

Marshall County Sheriffs Deputies deployed stop sticks too, Johnson reportedly hit them and kept driving.

Helms said Johnson wrecked about a half a mile out 12th Street in Moundsville. Johnson then reportedly ran from deputies before being arrested.

He is being held on over a $100,000 bond.
