WPHS has extra security called for “potential altercation”

Extra security had to be called to Wheeling Park High School Wednesday after school officials learned of a “potential altercation”.

This issue has brought concern among many parents, but officials say the students will be kept safe.

Ohio County Schools Assistant Superintendent Rick Jones tells me if there is a legitimate concern where they’d need to cancel school, they’d cancel. But he says this is not the case. Jones confirmed there have been kids that  took part in “inappropriate behavior” that will be dealt with.

One worker inside the school also said they’ve seen an increase in parents pulling their students out of classes Wednesday due to concerns of potential issues. But Jones believes there is no danger to students or faculty inside of Wheeling Park.

“There have been some kids that done some things via social media that they’re probably not proud of and that we do not support,” said Jones. “So, they are going to be dealt with. There has not been a fight here or any type of altercation at all. If you walk through the hallways and classes here you would never know.”

Jones did say if you have any kind of concern or discrepancy involving any of the schools in Ohio County you should call the administrators of that school or the board office at 304-243-0300.
