YWCA fundraiser goes to new heights

The blood pumping, adrenaline rushing, Over-the-Edge fundraiser for the YWCA Wheeling will return for a fifth year.

The event sends thrill seekers from across the Ohio Valley repelling down the side of a building in Wheeling to raise money to help the organization fulfill their mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

This year the event is moving from the Stone Center, where it’s been held for the last four years, to the hotel at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino, Racetrack which stands at about 10 stories tall. The hotel stands nearly three stories taller than the Stone Center.

“It is a fundraiser. It is $1,000 a person and all of the money stays in the Valley. It’s crowdfunding so, I don’t expect you to raise your $1,000, but your friends and family and this year we’re trying to do teams, so teams of four will have a discounted price,” said YWCA Wheeling Executive Director, Lori Jones.

Over the last four years, the fundraiser has brought in more than $260,000 for the YWCA Wheeling.
