Middle and high school students in West Virginia may soon have the opportunity to join a mountain biking club.
Bike Wheeling is working with the West Virginia chapter of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association to start school clubs in the area.
They held a meeting Saturday at the Wheeling Artisan Center for interested volunteers and coaches.
There will be composite teams at first, but as the program grows, they hope that each school will have its own team.
League Director Cassie Smith says mountain biking as a club sport has a lot to offer middle and high school students.
“It’s character building. It’s just a great sport. It’s a lifetime sport. I just want to give back and give that opportunity to other kids,” said Smith.
Teams will be formed on April 1.
If you are interested in starting a team, you can find more information at WestVirginiaMTB.org.
If you are a student and would like to join the club, Smith promises they will find every student a mountain bike.
