Bridgeport Police have issued a warning, urging people to keep their doors locked and if a stranger shows up at their door to call 911.
This comes after they said reports are circulating on Facebook that claim people driving a dark colored van are going to house, claiming to offer free air fresheners. The posts say one person is staying in the car while another is going door-to-door.
No one has filed a police report about it, so police have no clear information about it, but they did say no one is supposed to be out there selling anything.
“Currently there’s no solicitation in the Village, and no one has been authorized to do so,” Chief Bumba said. “So, if somebody comes to approach your house in this manner, you are to contact the police department.”
One man did tell Bridgeport Police that there were some vacuum sweeper salesmen making the rounds in the village.
The Chief said that’s not allowed unless they come to the city building and obtain a permit to solicit.
Residents 7News spoke to said they agree with police, if a stranger comes to your door, don’t answer it.
“I think if anybody knocks on your door and you don’t know them, you don’t let them in,” said Allan Blanchard.
“I don’t think you should open the door,” added Tom Brewster. “Unless it’s somebody you really know, it’s not safe.”
Anyone who is approached by these people can either call 911 or call the Bridgeport Police Department at (740) 635-9999.
