Good news for drivers in Belmont County.
Vehicles will no longer have to take the long way around to get to some of their favorite places near the Ohio Valley Mall.
After more than 18 months of construction Commons Mall Crossing is officially open and area businesses couldn’t be more thrilled.
Traffic is now flowing from the Ohio Valley Mall out to the North Side of Interstate 70.
Commissioner Mark Thomas said it’s been a long project but this road will being so many new things for the county.
Belmont County Commissioner, Mark Thomas said, “It’s going to be a great addition for all of Belmont County because it’s going to bring more business in for the years ahead but most importantly it is going to provide another way to get in and out of the Ohio Valley Mall and that will improve traffic and safety.”
The General Manager at Buffalo Wild Wings said the detour affected them mostly at lunch time and he can’t wait for that to pick up again.
Buffalo Wild Wings General Manager, Ben Omaits said, “They’ll know how to get here a little bit easier. So they will pop in a lot easier and a lot quicker and we’ll be able to get them in and out and that way they can continue their shopping and that stuff.”
There is also a new traffic pattern on National Road just east of St. Clairsville.
Commissioner Thomas said the most important thing for people to realize that the new lights in the area are active.
“There’s going to be a lot more traffic coming in and out of the new Commons Mall Crossing Road. This is really going to help improve traffic flow, improve safety, and ultimately create more economic development,” said Thomas.
Now the entire project is set to be completed in the Spring of 2019.
