The City of Wheeling and Williams Lea partnered up once again this weekend for the ‘Make Wheeling Shine’ community cleanup event.
Make Wheeling Shine is part of a program orgainzed by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. The Department grants funding for various organzations to complete community clean-up projects throughout the state.
After getting the project started last year, city officials are eager to particpate for another go-around.
“Our inaugual event in 2018 was a sucess and I hop this is something we can build upon,” said Jesse Mestrovic, director of parks and receation for the City of Wheeling. “We had 53 volunteers and hauled away more than two and a half dump tuck loads of litter from Wheeling Creek.”
Last year alone, the state collected mre than 240,000 pounds of litter and debris.
This year’s event will mainly focus on areas along Wheeling Creek again and Hertiage Trail. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude at noon.
