Sheriff Dave Lucas says he never met the two fallen officers from Westerville, Ohio, but he says they were brother officers and his department will travel to their funeral to pay their respects.

He says he and Chief Deputy James Zusack will wear their formal dress uniforms and will probably depart at about 9:30 a.m. Friday for the service, which is set for 1 p.m. in Westerville.

He says other officers from his department and at least one from the Barnesville Police Department will accompany them.

And Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland says four officers from his department will also make the trip.

“We’re a family,” Sheriff Lucas noted. “They’re brothers of ours. And we’re going to go there and pay our respects.”
