The legal case involving Cody the dog in Belmont County has come to a close.

You may recall Cody was the large white dog, chained to the front of an empty trailer in Colerain, suffering from a large tumor on his head.

After surgery, Cody has recovered.

On Wednesday his owner, Terri Rice, 48, of Martins Ferry, was sentenced to 90 days, but 83 of those were suspended and the remaining seven will be served in community service rather than jail.

Rice will be on probation for two years, and is not allowed to own a dog for that time.

Officials said the most important part is that she forfeited ownership of Cody.

Now he is available for adoption at the Belmont County Animal Shelter.

If you would like to adopt Cody, call (740) 695-4708.
