FOLLANSBEE, W Va. (WTRF) - A Follansbee man is under arrest in connection to bizarre explosions heard in the city.
Police Chief John Schwertfeger confirmed Nicholas Destefano, 22, is under arrest after police received numerous reports of explosions in the Downtown and Highland Hills areas of the city.
DeStefano is currently in the Northern Regional Jail awaiting arraignment and bond.
He faces 5 counts of illegal possession of an explosive device and 5 felony charges of wanton endangerment involving a destructive device.
Police told 7News this happened on Wednesday, September 12th, when residents reported four explosions.
Police first responded to what they thought was a transformer exploding in the south end of Follansbee by the river around 10:00 p.m.
Officials searched the area, with no sign of damage to any transformers.
Thirty minutes later, another explosion was heard in the alley behind Gabby's Restaurant.
Just after 11:00 p.m., another boom was reported by K&J's Skip N Go.
Officials said the fourth and final explosion was heard in the Highland Hills area around 12:30 a.m.
Chief Schwertfeger said at one of explosion sites, police found remnants of what they believe could be a homemade explosive.
