Former Belmont Co. commissioner to report to jail Friday

Crimes and Courts

Former Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas is expected to report to jail for not obeying a court order.

Officials say that Thomas was found in contempt of court in December, and was ordered to jail if he didn’t obey a court order from Judge John Vavra. The order stated Thomas was to turn over documents relating to a lawsuit he is facing by November 30. He reportedly did not turn over the required documents.

It has also been reported that he had another deadline to produce documents on January 4, which was also not met.

Judge Vavra has ordered Thomas to report to jail by 9 a.m. on Friday.

Thomas lost his seat as county commissioner in the November election, and before that, he lost his law license.
