UPDATE 11:46 a.m.:

According to Belmont County Prosecutor Dan Fry and a neighbor, a 59-year-old man had his mother and brother in the house on Washington Boulevard outside of Martins Ferry.

Belmont County 911 received a call at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday evening about the man chasing family members with a knife at the home.

Officers from the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, Martins Ferry Police, and Bridgeport Police responded to the area.

Officials say the man then started a fire in the house, and at that point, officers ran inside.

Officers reportedly tried to subdue the man with non-lethal force by tasing him.

Fry said the tasing had no effect on the man, and the man reportedly continued his violent aggressive behavior.

Shots were fired by several officers, and the suspect was killed.

A neighbor told 7News that the man was “off of his meds and violent.” She said this was not his first violent episode.

Ohio BCI is investigating this case.
