Vince Gianangeli issued the following statement after the sentencing of Devan Redman of Belmont County for child endangerment:
“Thank you to our Children Services staff, the Belmont County Sheriff’s office, the Belmont County Prosecutor’s office and Judge Frank Fregiato for all you did in making sure Ms. Redman received the maximum sentence today for abusing little Kailynn.
This is not ONE of the worst cases of child abuse we have seen in our Children Services unit at the Belmont County Department of Job and Family Services–it is THE worst case.
It is also a case of true inspiration and resilience shown by a mere four-year-old.
Just two months before her tragic abuse, Kailynn can be seen in a family video, responding to her mother’s question: what do you say about Mommy?
With a beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes, she responds, ‘Mommy is my treasure.’ And her mother answers, ‘You are my favorite little jewel.’
The sweet innocence of this video will forever remain in my thoughts, but unfortunately the horrific photos of sweet Kailynn bruised and burned will also remain there.
Nothing can un-do what was done to Kailynn.
It is too early to tell if counseling will help her overcome the pain and suffering she experienced over 23 days.
At her tender age of four, Kailynn has experienced what most children would not in a lifetime.
A special girl like her deserves the best life has to offer.
So I hope and pray, as time passes and she gets older, only the best things in life come her way, and that her days are filled with fun, sunshine, happiness and love.
She has touched so many of our hearts, and we love her dearly.
In closing, I would like to thank all those individuals and businesses that gave Kailynn gifts when this story first broke. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.”
