Man arrested for taking inappropriate photos of women and possession of child pornography

Crimes and Courts

A Belmont County Man is in custody after a joint investigation found him in custody of inappropriate photos and child pornography.

The investigation was sparked by the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol when an allegation surfaced that James Dean Booth, 39, was going into the female restroom at an interstate rest stop and taking photos.

Detectives across three departments executed a search warrant at Booth’s home, discovering and seizing multiple electronic devices that indicated his involvement in more crimes, police say.

Booth was arrested and is charged with 5 felony counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor, and is being held in the Belmont County Jail. His bail is set at $100,000.

Detectives also believe that Booth may be connected to a Wheeling case in which a juvenile was stalked, and unwittingly and inappropriately photographed. They are looking into other incidents that allegedly involve Booth and inappropriate conduct in public areas.

If you have any information on any such incidents or if you have had an encounter with Mr. Booth, contact the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (740) 695-7933.
