Moundsville Police are continuing to investigate after an incident involving a child took place on Saturday afternoon. Chief Tom Mitchell says the incident occurred at the Dairy Queen Drive Thru on Route 2 as a family was eating in an outdoor area.
“The guy stopped his car, there was a 5-year old child,”Chief Mitchell explained. “He motioned to the 5-year-old and then said ‘come over here’. The child looked at the car and then the mother said ‘no get over here’ so the child walked back.”
The car then pulled out of the parking lot. The car is described as a white Chevy Cavalier with a black male driving.
Chief Mitchell says he isn’t aware of any other instances involving this man, but police are searching for him for questioning.
“I don’t think that we’re you know throwing out the alarm at this point you know APB looking for this guy, but we’re gonna locate him,” Chief Mitchell said. “I have great confidence in that because of investigative tools we have at our disposal, some things my detectives are working on, we’re doing to locate him in the next day or so, but you should always be aware of whose around your children.”
He also said it’s always good to remind your children to be wary of strangers and to stay near you in public.
“Tell children so that they’re aware that there are people out there and they need to be cautious,” continued Chief Mitchell. “I always had my children ‘I need to know where you’re at. You wouldn’t like it if I didn’t know where, if you didn’t’ know where I was’ so you know we kind of had that communication thing going on and set boundaries for the children so they know where they’re allowed to go and what they’re allowed to do.”
