Steubenville police responded to a call of shots fired at Club 106 at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday.
When police arrived, they found three people had been shot after an argument escalated inside.
“Basically, this shooting involved two individuals. One is deceased and one was shot in the chest and another person was shot in the right leg just below the knee,” said City Manager James Mavromatis.
Dylan Bittinger, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Also injured was 20-year-old Monte Lyles and 35-year-old Tyrelle Gilbert.
Gilbert was shot in the chest and life flighted to Pittsburgh, where he remains in critical condition.
A relative of Gilbert told 7News that she’s heartbroken about the shooting, but isn’t surprised.
“That’s why I don’t go in there. I mean, I’ve never been in there because every time I hear about this place, it’s nothing good. I hope my cousin will be alright and to the people that died, God bless ya’ll,” said Linda Hannah, a cousin of Gilbert.
And like Linda mentioned, this isn’t the first incident.
Club 106 had recently just reopened after being closed for a year when the city filed a nuisance complaint stating the club had been the scene of numerous violent crimes, including shootings.
This left residents wondering why the club has been kept open.
“I think the club should be shut down. They’ve had so much trouble with it. It was shut down for a year and they just opened it back up,” said Bill Rhinehart, a resident for 92-years.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing, but the public is not in any danger.
They are urging residents to avoid the club.
“I want the public to know, this is not a place that you need to go to. Again, they continue to go there. We’ve had numerous issues over the years there. It’s tied up our police department on a variety of calls there. So, we’re going to proceed civilly as well as criminally on charges that we need to bring against people,” said Mavromatis.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is still investigating. But officials tells 7News that no arrests have been made yet.
