UPDATE, 11:55 a.m.: The suspect’s name was originally reported to 7News incorrectly from officials. The suspect was identified Tuesday as Robert Sayre Jr., 55.

Sayre is facing charges of failure to comply, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, obstructing justice, and several others.

A high-speed chase down Route 7 in Belmont County ended in a crash Monday night.

According to Bellaire Police Chief, Dick Flanagan, Robert Sayre stole an SUV from Martins Ferry and then led officers on a high-speed chase down Route 7.

The chase ended at the 48th Street exit when, according to police, Sayre crashed the SUV.

Chief Flanagan said Sayre was going 90 miles per hour coming off of the exit ramp before smashing into a Jeep.
