Victim identified after body found in truck in Dallas Pike

Crimes and Courts

On May 21, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office responded after a body was found in a truck at Hunter’s Truck Sales and Service.

The victim has been identified as Paul T. Carter, 55, who had been living part time in McMechen WV.

According to officials, Carter was a truck driver and was discovered deceased in his truck in the parking lot of Hunter’s Truck Sales and Service in the Dallas Pike area.

A preliminary examination on scene reportedly did not show any obvious signs of trauma as the cause of death.

Autopsy results are still pending.

A body was found in a truck late Monday night at Hunter’s Truck Sales and Service and police are investigating.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard, the call for a Dead on Arrival was toned out around 9 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, in Valley Grove, they discovered a body inside of a closed truck in the parking lot.

The cause of death was not immediately determined, because the body was so badly decomposed due to the hot weather and little ventilation inside the cab of the truck. Officials couldn’t determine the time of death based on the advanced decomposition.

Sheriff Howard said he did know that the death was not a suicide, but couldn’t say anything beyond that.

Deputies are continuing to investigate, but the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office. Sheriff Howard said his office will check cameras and log books to see when the truck may have pulled into the lot.
