Wheeling Police investigating “suspicious incident” involving elementary student

According to Public Information Officer Philip Stahl, officers are investigating a reported “suspicious incident” involving an elementary-aged student.

Police say that a young girl was walking to her bus stop along Barrington Drive in in the Forrest Hills area of the city when she was approached by a car and was reportedly offered a ride home.

Officers say the young girl was scared and ran to a neighbor’s house.

According to Stahl, the driver of the blue sedan was a white male in his 20s, with glasses and a beard. A female is also believed to have been in the vehicle.

Wheeling Police say they are investigating this case.

Police do not believe anyone is in danger.

The Ohio County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an alleged child abduction attempt Wednesday morning.

According to Sheriff Tom Howard, an elementary-aged girl was walking to the bus stop when she was reportedly approached by a man in a blue sedan.

The driver, who is described as a white man with a beard, reportedly talked to the young girl and tried to get her into his car.

The incident happened along Barrington Drive in Ohio County.

Crews from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department and the Wheeling Police Department are on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. Details are limited at this time.
