As the world watches the catastrophic fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, reactions are pouring in.
Locally, the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston is also sending prayers to Paris.
The Diocese Director of Marketing and Communications Tim Bishop released the following statement:
“Not only the Catholic and Christian world, but people from every faith and walk of life are watching with horror as Christendom’s most iconic Cathedral continues to burn. For over 800 years, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has been a spiritual sanctuary and refuge for the people of France and for pilgrims across the world. Our hearts are broken and we join in solidarity with the people of France as we witness the destruction of this symbol of our faith and heritage, even as we assert that the basis of our faith is not diminished.”
