Joy Vanscyoc has been named Marshall County Schools Teacher of the Year.
Vanscyoc is an art teacher at Moundsville Middle School.
She also instructs a Project Lead the Way class called “Design and Modeling.”
She sponsors an art club which gives students opportunities to display their work in school and community art shows and competitions.
She says showing the public her students’ talent is a top priority to her.
“One big thing that I definitely want to do is show the community what these kids have to offer. We do a lot with the community. We take their artwork out into the community. We try to get involved in things that way the community, not just the parents, can see the great things that these students are doing,” said Vanscyoc.
Vanscyoc also created a new chapter of the Technology Student Association in which students compete in science, technology, engineering, art and math challenges.
She is now being considered for 2019 West Virginia State Teacher of the Year.
