Some area students had the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and learn a few things about the environment on Friday.
Officials and employees from the Chevron Corporation, along with representatives from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, took part in the annual Stock the Stream Day.
The annual event took place at Bear Rock Lake in Valley Grove.
Volunteers helped students from Marshall and Ohio County schools stock the lake with trout. They gave the students hands-on lessons on topics, such as trout identification.
“They had a curriculum lesson from the West Virginia D & R this week in the classroom, learning about the environmental, the biology aspect of this, and really, today is just about having a good time and putting it all together,” said Lee Ann Wainwright with the Chevron Corporation.
When the kids finished stocking the lake, they were given fishing poles provided by Cabela’s and spent the rest of the day going after the big catch.
