According to officials, customers with Frontier Communications are experiencing a major outage in the Wellsburg area.

Cory Wilkerson, Information Technology Director at Lauttamus Security, said that the outage is affecting internet and telephones for Frontier users, as well as AT&T cellphone users.

AT&T cellphone users may not be able to obtain service because the companies use the same fiber optic cable as a connection between towers.

Wilkerson said that this particular fiber outage may impact other communication providers that use Frontier.

The outage is reportedly having a major impact on people trying to make emergency phone calls in Brooke and Hancock counties. According to Chief Larry Palmer, all of the phone lines and 911 lines are down.

Chief Palmer said that all emergency calls for Brooke and Hancock counties are being transferred to Ohio County.

The outage is impacting customers with the following prefixes:

  • 304-231
  • 304-234
  • 304-723
  • 304-527
  • 304-797
