UPDATE 3:52 p.m.: According to officials, the Wheeling suspension bridge has been re-opened.
UPDATE 4/2: According to District Bridge Engineer Patrick Gurrera, crews are at the bridge to continue assessing the damage from Friday morning’s accident.
Crews will also continue making repairs to what was damaged.
They say they’re hoping to have all work completed by the end of the day Monday.
UPDATE: 8:20 a.m. Wheeling Police confirm one car hit the south sidewalk on the suspension bridge about 6:30 this morning.
The car is now cleared, and the state is en route to assess the damage.
The bridge will be shut down until further notice.
ORIGINAL: 6:45 a.m. The suspension bridge is shut down this morning according to the West Virginia Division of Highways.
An accident is causing the shutdown, which happened around 6:30 this morning.
DOH crews are on scene, and they have no estimated time for the bridge to re-open.
