Fla. teen headbutted baby because he didn’t want to get up early to watch her, police say

A 17-year-old in Nebraska will be charged as an adult after he allegedly head-butted his crying 2-month-old daughter who suffered a brain hemorrhage, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.

The teen was charged with intentional child abuse resulting in injury and booked into the Lancaster County youth detention center, according to court records.

Police said the child’s mother brought the girl to the hospital on Jan. 22 with concerns she was crying and sluggish. The girl was referred to another hospital where they conducted a spinal tap and found bleeding in her brain. The girl was then transferred to Nebraska Medicine where surgeons were able to remove the fluid from her brain.

According to an affidavit, investigators suspect the teen became angry when he had to get up early to watch the girl, so he headbutted her, leaving her with bruises across her forehead, according to the newspaper.

Detectives also suspect the 17-year-old had shaken the baby’s head before.

The teen appeared before a judge on Wednesday and was ordered not to contact his daughter or any child younger than 6.

Court records show the girl is now in the custody of the state.
