Happening Today: “Women’s Health Holiday Classic” at Buckeye Local

The Wheeling Hospital Cancer Research Classic showcases some of the best boy’s basketball teams from around the area.’

This year though, another group of all-stars is hitting the court.

For the first time ever, Wheeling Hospital is sponsoring the “Women’s Health Holiday Classic.”

It’s all going down at Buckeye Local Highschool on Saturday and running from 11a.m. To 5:30p.m. It’s not only about raising awareness for women’s health but it’s also about putting local girls basketball on the map. Several girls basketball teams, both varsity and junior-varsity are playing.

“Ladies basketball, revolved around women’s health. It’s open to anybody and we just hope to see this grow,” said Tom Valuska, Girls Basketball Coach, Buckeye Local. 

 “We have raffles. Giving off bikes, gas cards, a number of fun things as well as education,” said Serge Gentile, Girls Basketball Coach, Shadyside. 

Tickets are just $5 at the door. Doors open at 9:30a.m. First game kicks off at 11:00a.m.

Here’s the lineup: 

Varsity: 

Barnesville vs. Buckeye – 11a.m.

Bridgeport vs. Beallsville – 12:45p.m.

Shadyside vs. Buckeye Trail – 2:30p.m.

St. Clairsville vs. John Marshall – 4:15p.m.

7th & 8th Grade: 

Barnesville 7th vs. Harrison 7th – 9:30a.m.

Barnesville 8th vs. Harrison 8th – 10:45a.m.

Shadyside 7th vs. Buckeye 7th – Noon

Shadyside 8th vs. Buckeye 8th – 1:15p.m.

St. Clairsville 7th vs. Sherrard 7th – 2:30p.m.

St. Clairsville 8th vs. Sherrard 8th – 3:45p.m.
