With Christmas just a few weeks away people are continuing to order gifts online and have them delivered to their homes or businesses.

But with those packages come people who may try to steal them.

This time of year Police Departments say they see an increase in these types of thefts.

We spoke to Wheeling Deputy Chief Marty Kimball on ways to keep your packages safe this holiday season.

Wheeling Police Department Deputy Chief, Martin Kimball said, “Be out there. Be extra alert. Keep an eye out. Maybe leave a porch light on so the delivery driver knows exactly what house he’s going to. If you know a neighbor who is maybe elderly and retired is home all the time, maybe they would be willing to accept the package for you.”

If you suspect your package may be stolen call the dispatch center at 304-234-3661 and you can file a police report.
