Local WVU parent speaks on shooting threat incident on campus

A WVU student was arrested Monday after threatening to go on a shooting spree on campus.

Authorities were notified of 21-year-old Cheickna Kagnassy’s plans after receving screenshot messages from a concerned citizen.

Parents of WVU students were not notified of the incident and many are growing concern of the safety on college campuses.

“This is the fourth incident that I know of on WVU’s campus this year,” said Jennifer Taylor, parent of two WVU students. “It’s unnerving to know I guess, for lack of a better word, how popular this is becoming for people and how young people find this as an acceptable outlet to express anger or frustration at something.”

Taylor hopes the University handles similar situations differently moving forward.
