While most kids were at home enjoying the weekend, some students at Woodsdale Elementary went back to school Saturday for a mental health fair.
They had everything you could think of for kids to steady their minds. The students enjoyed yoga lessons, meditation time and lessons on healthy eating.
There was also discussions about trusted adults and how kids can identify and address abuse.
“We are really trying to promote mental health and not make people so afraid to talk about so if kids learn at 7 or 8 years old…then they’re going to be more open to talking about it as adults as real struggles start to come in their lives,“ said Allyson Kangisser, Counselor, Woodsdale Elementary School.
Woodsdale Elementary takes the topic of mental health seriously. The school has discussions about mental health written into the curriculum. They also offer group therapy and skill building classes as well as individual therapy for their students.
