Spring is always an exciting time of year for area high school students.
With proms and graduations right around the corner, one local law firm has teamed with an area high school to remind their students about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Gold, Khourey & Turak, with help from the Weirton Police and Fire Departments, staged a mock crash at Weirton Madonna High School on Thursday.
The message continued Friday with a mock trial at the Federal Courthouse in Wheeling. It involved actual attorneys and police officers. Witnesses were called and evidence was submitted just as in a real court setting.
“As a parent, I know how difficult it is at time to get the correct message to our children,” explained Christopher Turak, Attorney for Gold, Khourey & Turak. “We hope that by putting on a mock crash and trial we can further reinforce the dangers of drinking an driving and to encourage high school kids, teenagers, to make sensible and right choices and safe choices.”
The jury consisted of twelve students from Madonna High School. The victims parents provided an impact statement while the jury handed down a verdict.
