Morgantown ranked 9 in ‘2018 Best Places to Raise a Family’ list

Morgantown has been named one of the ‘2018 10 Best Places to Raise a Family’ by

According to Livability, the places for this list are determined by analyzing all U.S. cities with a population between 20,000 and 300,000 and weeding out places with high childcare costs and low ‘Great Schools’ scores.

Livability said they use the following criteria in order to determine the best places to raise a family:

  • Number of potential playmates (percent of population that is under age 6)
  • Quality of public schools
  • Measures of children’s health
  • Affordability of housing & transportation options
  • Cost of childcare
  • Number of daycare options, parks & libraries
  • Walkability and other factors related to the environment

Morgantown came in at number 9 in the list, and Livability said it is because of the large abundance of activities there are to do around the city. They list WVU sporting and cultural events, fishing at Cheat Lake, and visiting the Spark! Imagination and Science Center as just a few of the fun family activities available in Morgantown.

Livability also said that Morgantown made the list since Morgantown High School was recently ranked as the number one high school in the state, and boasts an above-average 89% graduation rate.

Morgantown was also ranked number 43 on Livability’s ‘2018 Top 100 Best Places to Live’ in January.
