Senator Manchin reacts to government shut down

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin voted in favor of the bill that was proposed Friday.

He says he believes it is the Senate’s job to set their differences aside when something needs to be done.

He also says the Senate needs to see some major changes.

Manchin says the rules of the Senate need to change so that the Majority and Minority Leaders do not have as much power.

He says the rest of members of the Senate should have an influence on what bills are read on the floor from the get-go.

“So much pressure is coming at both of them, the Democrat leader and the Republican leader, and it falls on their shoulders. ‘Don’t bring this to the floor. Let’s not vote on that. Let’s stop that. Let’s filibuster that.’ That shouldn’t be,” said Senator Manchin.

Manchin reinforced that disagreements on DACA and immigration were the major issues that led to the measure to fund the government failing on Friday.

He said he does not think Democrats or Republicans want to see the Dreamers deported and that he is confident they will come to an agreement.
