Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that left traffic backed up on Interstate 70 East for hours.

The crash happened at around 6:30 p.m. near milepost 199 in Kirkwood Township in Belmont County.

Officials say Ronald A. Sherman, 67, of Claysville hit a deer which disabled his car partially in the roadway. They say Sherman got out of his car and was standing in the roadway.

A few minutes later, officials say Andrew Robinson, 42, of Columbus hit the back of Sherman’s car, forcing it onto him.

Sherman died as a result of his injuries.

The passenger in Sherman’s car and three people in Robinson’s car were taken to local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
