Belmont County working to expand broadband Internet

Ohio Headlines

In Belmont county, the commissioners are working to provide Internet for areas of the county that don’t have it.

They have partnered with a private company to try and provide both wired and wireless broadband Internet to homes and businesses. The private company has been surveying different pockets of the county that would need the service.

The county is not outlaying any money, but they are allowing for the use of their vertical assets like the water towers and 911 towers. Mark Thomas, a Belmont County Commissioner, said, “In order for us to proceed forward in 2018 and beyond, broadband Internet is a must for our residents. They deserve it, and just as importantly for the businesses in Belmont County as we continue to grow. So it was another good progressive update on broadband Internet, and we’ll have more to come in the near future.”

The private company hopes to have a plan set in place by the end of February.
