STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) - After a bombshell grand jury report in Pennsylvania revealed widespread abuse in several dioceses in the state, many others are looking into their own past to find the truth.
The Diocese of Steubenville is one of these particular dioceses. In the coming weeks, the diocese says they will be compiling a list of names of priests who were removed from active ministry because of allegations of sex abuse with children. This list will be released by the end of October, and dates back to the diocese's formation in 1944.
The list will be released in the interest of "transparency and accountability," said Bishop Jeffery Monforton, and will contain between 10 and 20 names.
"Together, let us pray for our diocese, especially for the victims of abuse within our own diocese," Bishop Monforton said.
