Ohio State Senator Frank Hoagland is speaking out in support of Senate Bill 250 that aims to prevent damage to critical infrastructure throughout Ohio.
Some of that critical infrastructure includes electricity, gas and oil production and distribution, telecommunication, heating, water supply, and more.
Senate Bill 250 would make it illegal to tamper with these services and equipment and would impose fines on those that do.
Senator Hoagland says he has seen how communities and citizens can be impacted if electricity or cell phone service is interrupted or goes down for an extended period of time.
He says this bill aims to prevent those issues.
“Our road system, our chemical factories, everything that is pertinent to our daily lives as American citizens, Senate Bill 250 is focused on protecting,” said Hoagland.
Hoagland gave an example of how infrastructure damage can have a significant negative impact. He said if telecommunications towers are down, senior citizens may not be able to call for medical help via a landline or a medical alert button.
