Jefferson County school camera system linked up with 911 operators

Ohio Headlines

One Jefferson County school now has a one-of-a-kind security system that allows 911 operators to connect into the same system within seconds.

At Jefferson County Joint Vocational School, there is a brand new completely digital system that is linked with the same system used by the county’s 911 operators.

“It’s another safety measure that we took for our student’s safety which is our top priority here at this school above all else.” said Ron Peach, the Technology Coordinator for JCJVS.

This is the first school in the county to have this kind of digital connection with emergency officials. It allows the operators to see first hand what the emergency is and dispatch the appropriate officials.

This new system called Axis completely replaces their old analog system where they had to go back, pull the tape to review the footage.

“The best thing we needed to do is start over fresh and put in a brand new digital IP-based camera system in, and from there we’ll make the hook-up to 911 much easier,” said Peach.

There are cameras set up throughout the school including the hallways, cafeteria, and right at the front door.

Peach says that the 911 operators are not constantly watching the cameras, but they are one click away in case of an emergency.
