A move that could help revitalize the area is one that the Ohio Valley may not be fully ready for.
Those words are from Moundsville Vice Mayor Phil Remke about the possible ethane cracker plant coming to Belmont County.
Remke said even now, just with gas and oil drilling, traffic can get backed up on the Moundsville Bridge for as long as 45 minutes.
He added that both sides of the river need infrastructure improvements and additional businesses to support this kind of sudden influx of people and activity.
“Restaurants are gonna be a major, and that’s what I’m working toward,” Remke continued. “When you consider all these people, you know up at Center and Potter Township, they had to move the people. 25 of these USA buses to move the men from the site where they park their cars to there. It’s gonna be that way if not more.”
Officials said there’s been no date set for the announcement of whether the cracker will be built or not.
They believe it will be revealed in the final quarter of the year, which could be any time.
